new am3+ board

so the sabertooth is out for rma for the second time (since ive had it), this board was beat, had scorched marks on the pcie slot from there failed reflow on the NB and some patched traces.

so im giving up on getting a good rma'd board and am looking at a replacement

any of those worth having or you guys know of any better? ive thought about going with something cheaper without the overclocking but idk if its worth having not OC'd

if i get the sabertooth back and it actually works this time just gonna throw something cheap in it for the kids

which CPU do you have?

i had the UD3p it's decent 8 phase board for overclocking FX-83XX it's alright but the UEFI is ATROCIOUS...and the board will do double post at boot when you have an overclock. Fan control seem to belong to a 1998 motherboard...other than that it was stable...it's a brownish PCB though.

If you have an FX-8320/8350 with a medium overclock the 970 gaming would do fine.

The other 990FX boards are better but also more expensive...

970 gaming will support chips under 100w TDP anything above that get another 990FX, Not sure how you killed the sabertooth... I've tried very hard to kill mine even at 1.7v...

i wish i would of taken pictures of it before i boxed it, i was getting nastey jumps in heat on the NB so i popped the heatsink off and the previous rma guys decided to reflow the NB and there was flux everywhere under it and had 3 different color heat pads stacked up on it and the vrms so nothing was making good contact. there was a chunk of pad missing on the bottom bar of the vrms so those two modules werent being cooled at all. to top that all off it only had one functioning 3.0 port

My sabertooth was an RMA board too, half of the VRM didn't have contact with my heatsink. Doesn't matter my VRM and NB are watercooled now so it's whatever.

close to what mine was lol, also they heated it without any protection on the pcie slot so to use the top one you had to have downward pressure on the card. i deff love the board but looks like most rmas are terrible

the Gigabyte 970A-UD3P will do that just fine...like i said though it's brown and it has a not good UEFI :P

but it's stable and overclock well...i had my FX-8320 running at 4.73ghz with 1.55V on it for a crack at beating the cinebench R15 LTT record...but that did not happened unfortunately :P

Actually no it won't, the UD3P is crap for overclocking on that's why your 5ghz capable chip could only hit 4.73ghz.

WHAT?! no...lol :P my FX chip was a low binned FX-8320 it was NOWHERE near 5ghz+ capable...when it won't get 4.8ghz at 1.55v it's nevver gonna do it...and this board was very strong the VRM never got above 90c at any point and the CPU was not throttling on it...it was stable...it's a good board hardware wise...the UEFI is super trashy though.

4.73ghz is still pretty decent for a 100$ FX-8320 BTW...

i must have been pretty lucky on mine lol it was only a 6350 but i hit 5.0 at 1.53 but went back down due to air cooling not cutting it lol. it was stable turboing to 4.8-4.9 with no issues.

6350 is binned...it's like a 9370/9590 for example...it's a ''better than average'' FX-6300...you paid for it...that's why it overclock very well.
