If you're on the cheap, a Radeon R9 200x or 300x series would go a long way, if you can put down more, a GTX 970 or 980 would be fine, and those GPU's would last you for a few years even if CS:GO (which is my main game also btw) is your main game. I personally own a MSI Gaming 390X 8G, and always go with MSI cards, but ASUS, Sapphire etc would be just fine, it's all preference brand wise or if you want factory overclocked or not, there isn't much different in the chip itself.

Intel i7-5820K, MSI X99 SLI Plus, ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce GTX 1080, Corsair Dominator Platinum 64GB-DDR4, Corsair HX1200i, NZXT Kraken X62, Corsair Crystal 570x.

Depends on the card, a GTX 980 is no where near cheaper than a 290 or 290X, not even cheaper than a 390 or 390X. A GTX 970 isn't cheaper either. 355 for a R9 390 vs 395 for a 970 or even 690 for a 980Ti.

I converted dollar to euro's, which is my currency, so the dollar equivalent is pretty much on point. $358 for a MSI 390 8G http://www.amazon.com/MSI-Radeon-R9-390-Graphic/dp/B00ZPOAYG6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457636586&sr=8-1&keywords=R9+390+8GB As you see, WAY cheaper than a 980Ti or even a GTX 970.

Intel i7-5820K, MSI X99 SLI Plus, ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce GTX 1080, Corsair Dominator Platinum 64GB-DDR4, Corsair HX1200i, NZXT Kraken X62, Corsair Crystal 570x.

Cheaper than a 970 and performs better. We have a winner

Well most of the time they sure are, I always loved the Club3D cutout on the GPU backplate. But I do like the MSI Gaming cards these days, look wise fantastic and the cooling solution is way better + Fanless when not under heavy load keeping things quiet in your case.

Not only that but the extra GDDR5 Memory leaves room for big, high quality textures without compromising the card's resources.

It's up to you really, I'd personally go with the MSI Gaming one, it has a nice cooling solution + when not under load it's fanless keeping things quiet, the fans only kick in when the GPU hits around 60-65 degrees. But any card will do really.

Yes but he thought 970's were cheaper, so I picked one of AMD's higher end cards below the Fury and Fury X, which would be the 390 and 390X and beat the 970 in price and performance, but you're right 380's do just fine, I personally have a MSI Gaming 390X 8G in my rig and most of the time only play CS:GO but for my other games like Hitman, GTA V etc, it runs perfectly fine with good frame rates, although my aging FX-8350 which I will upgrade to a 5820K soon is bottlenecking my GPU since the PCI slots are not equipped to fully unlock the card's potential.
