PC for uncle

Hi LTT,

It's been a long time since ive looked up PC parts and shit, but since ive built 3 PC's my uncle who loves MMORPG's asked me to help him build a mac crashing Windows PC.

He is looking for a build that can run practically anything the main game he wants to play now is FFXIV which recommends a GTX 660. I told him building a PC with a 660 won't work with modern titles he also sometimes plays.

Conclusion: Help me build a PC

Budget: between 800 and 1000 pounds (No more)

Other details: He would like an SSD for fast boots and shit so I was thinking 120 gb ssd + 500 GB hdd, best of both worlds and bang for buck.

He doesnt feel the need to admire the insides so fancy case doesnt matter.

He would also like good cooling aka an aftermarketcooler (Just the 212 evo or whatever its called is fine).

Thanks alot!

Would last him longer as for an OS let him get one from like Reddit SW swap as that's going to be cheap.

That one looks pretty great

Read my edit. I have and it made the machine practically unusable, not to mention the security problems and all that. Linus and Luke too have stated that they are almost done with Windows 10.

How did it make it almost unusable? Perfectly usable on my computer.

Made it incredibly laggy, could barely do anything. Windows 8 had run fine, and Ubuntu runs well on it too.

If my E1 all in one computer can run it fine, any computer can run it. If my Dad´s A4 laptop can run it fine, you´d need a pentium 3 computer for you to have issues.

It actually had a very recent Pentium.

I am running it with a 4790k rig, a phenom II 925 rig, and also an i5-3360m rig.  I have had no issues on any of them.  Windows 8 had issues, windows 7 had issues, and so on for different people.  Sure, it isn't perfect, but it just came out.

Its a public release from one of the most highly-regarded companies ever, it better not have any fricking issues.

So, when Linux and Apple do it it is cool, but when MS doesn't have utter perfection then damn them?

1. I never said that, did I?

2. Linus isn't nearly as big.

3. Damn Apple anyway.

My point was that you should expect issues, not for everyone, when SW releases to the public.  Windows 8, 8.1, and 7 to every previous version were never utter perfection when they first launched.  There's still issues with them, but you still jump back to them because they have less issues for you?  Okay, no wonder they have less issues, now!  They have been patched and updated for years!  Windows 10 hasn't even been out for a full year.  It will be fixed with updates too.  Whining about how it isn't utter perfection, at first, is rather childish.  There's no such thing as perfect software.

Not all issues are bugs. Address privacy concerns, terrible search, etc. Just look around and you'll see many problems that aren't bugs.

Well, you only brought up lag.  So, I didn't really feel the need to cover that.  However, have fun being stuck to DX11 at most.

I will. Have fun with the worst piece of software written since Windows Vista.

Vista wasn't that bad.  Just a lot of people ran machines that couldn't handle vista.  I love how you forget that I'm a game dev major, and I have to work with dx12 even if I didn't want to then I'd lose money.  But, if you want to tinfoil hat over every little aspect of windows 10 then be my guest.

I wouldn't be the only one with a tinfoil hat. Maybe a lot of people run machines that can't run Windows 10. Perfectly acceptable machines otherwise. Anyway, you have your fun with DX12 and Win 10, meanwhile I'll avoid it until an upgrade is necessary.
