If that fails, just call the ISP honestly. If you are not getting your promised speeds from charter with a brand new router and their modem (I have the same plan from charter and get a solid 65+mbit/s and a 5 year old router) then something is clearly wrong...

Thanks, I will. Would this fix the netflix streaming in 1080p/4K issue on the upstairs TV on wifi? Or would I need another solution for that?

Also read my post after his, make sure you run downloads on different devices for about 30 minutes and check how hot it gets. If it is staying to where it isn't that warm to the touch (kinda room temp)(also check your modem) then call your isp and tell them you will be cancelling if they do not fix the problem. I say this because that means it is their end throttling the connection, not you.

Edit: (When you threaten to take your business else where you generally get service much faster and by a better guy)

Will do!

Depends on the device playing the video and how good of a speed it can get. My enterprise grade AP which is like 9 year old gets me three times the wifi speeds of my router, and the router is newer and even supports 5ghz.  I have some older devices that support streaming video but their internal CPU cannot handle high qualities...

Then it has no excuse to not be working :P

Might be a speed related issue with your wifi, go in the same room with a phone and run a speedtest to see if its a speed issue (which it certainly could be)

Haha right now netflix is working on the TV but only streaming at 720p. I did a speedtest on my phone and in that spot I'm not getting full bars consistently and am getting 37mpbs.

I should add that either the internet acts up in the morning, or, It works great until the afternoon. So... maybe it is a thermal throttling issue?

I would point a desk fan at your networking setup, this should rule out thermal throttling

So while netflix is only streaming at 720 I checked the modem and router. The modem is cool to the touch and the router is not hot by any means, but is warm-ish/room temp.

Also, is it weird that the modem is hooked up by coaxial?

Nope, thats how mine is hooked up. Its just the signal the ISP uses to talk to the modem

Ah alright. Anyway I will try the modem reset and report later since the modem and router seem cool to the touch right now.

Well I'm stumped. I downloaded multiple things on a few devices in the basement where the router is and my speed was a steady 60mbps and the router and modem stayed room temp. I restarted the modem and reset the router to factory settings and that did seem to work. I had better speeds on my iphone on the opposite side of the room compared to before. I then checked the upstairs and had the same speeds, so I thought all was fixed. But then I noticed that my iphone was not seeing the 5G signal just the 2.5G which is really weird because it did before. I even went as far as checking the channels and changing to empty ones. Still nothing. I also checked the speeds in the room with the smart tv and it oddly drops to about 5mbps. Also I thought I'd try my tablet to use the android wifi analyzed and the tablet is even having connection issues so bad that the google play story will not load.

Well thats odd... Is the 5ghz radio enabled in the settings of the router?

Right? But yes it is. It actually showed up. But it seems to drop a lot. I also checked the smart tv, and both the 2.5 and 5G signals are very weak.
