Need a new Transmitter for my Traxxas Rustler

Hey guys

 

I bought a Rustler back in 2010. I haven't touched it for quite a few years. I seem to have lost the remote control, which is the transmitter, I believe. I also need a new motor.

 

Can I just use any transmitter? And if so, which one do you recommend? I'm not crazy serious about it, I'd just like to get it running again. My budget is probably 50-60 USD.

I think Spektrum makes a cheap 2 channel model that would work nicely.

The Rustler was available with two different radio systems around that time, the older 27mhz AM system and the new 2.4ghz so you'll need to look at your receiver to determine what one you have.  With your budget I would grad a TQ transmitter of ebay for cheap because any aftermarket system worth upgrading to is $100+. 

 

If you have the older brushed motor I would definitely look into a VXL brushless ESC and motor,  it'll be like a completely different truck that will do over 50mph with a 3 cell LiPo.

Well, speed often depends on gearing, but yeah. Even Traxxas' shitty brushless solution and a 3 or 4S lipo would be lit.

I'll have to look for some cheaper ebay transmitters. I'll take a look after school. But yeah, I've got the old Titan brushed motor. What would you recommend as a Brushless+Esc combo, or maybe separate? My budget is at max 100$. I'd prefer if it was less, but I can probably go that far.

I sure hope so. Brushed is kinda lackluster. :P

Best in your budget probably would be a Castle Sidewinder 3 system, fully waterproof and Castle Creations has great support and service.  A 5700kv motor with a 3s LiPo is a really fast combo in a Rustler.

True that. A long time ago, I had a 1/10 on road car that came with a brushed motor that I upgraded to something brushless. The new motor made that thing go faster in reverse than the original did going forward. And that was with NiCd batteries xD

Long story short I had an original stampede loved it, dropped a castle system in it and 3s lipos, converted it to a slash 2wd, and my oh my. The stampede shocks are a little longer and bigger then the slash 2wd so the suspension just floats. Also I have it tuned so well I can make it glide over jumps and rocks. Brushless is a must for anything.
