pc issue HELP!!!!

Go to solution Solved by papapoi,

i would call msi and not even try to power it up again in case it damages any other components, unfortunately its not like the old days when the manufacturer would have a copy of the the chip layout so you could pinpoint what was wrong, when you do get another motherboard i would just try to boot up barebone(mb,cpu, memory) then add in the video card and hd after it posts. hopefully your other components are unaffected.. just in case though check if any of your other components are under warranty

ok i have a amd fx6300 cpu ...msi 970 gaming motherboard, an extreme 550w power supply. corsair h105 liquid cooler, 8gb of corsair vengeance ram, a 1tb wd hard drive and a asus 970 graphics card.. i ended up upgrading my power supply to a corsair 850w power supply but it wouldnt stay on. i pressed the power button but it  will flash on and turn off, and i tried it with two of the same power supply just in case the first one was defective but the end result was the same.. i switched back to my old 55w power supply and my motherboard started smoking from above where it says MSI.. there is 4 little squares and they were all smoking so now theres little holes in them, idk if i need a new motherboard or something i have no clue what to do ,, thanks for your help

i would think you need another motherboard , it wouldn't hurt to call or email msi and let them know the chips below the amd northbridge started smoking, hopefully its still under warranty if not better check your psu. were you overclocking before changing power supplies? did you clear the bios also before switching it? it might not matter but always good to start fresh if changing any components.

if i post a link to amazon try to use the LTT affiliate code to help the channel http://www.amazon.com/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&tag=linustechtips-20
