Hello, I've been having a problem with my computer for a while now, And the problem is, Is that my PC's randomly crashes, And i am pretty certain it is my CPU, I have an "AMD FX-9590 Octo-Core", And my motherboard is an "ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0", Now before i change any settings the PC will randomly freeze, All input fails, and the screens just lock up and nothing happens this is fixed with a full system reboot, Now the settings i put the CPU at to stop the random crashes are "https://gyazo.com/56f0eaed05f7761471a9c6fae9be8e9d" Default at "24x" Now, this is all fine and dandy when my PC is fixed and all i need to do it lower the core multiplier, But no, While in games (CSGO) i get these horrible lag spikes that take my FPS from 70 to around 18 for around 30 seconds every so often, And its got to the point where i just cant bear it any longer, (No its not my GPU, i have a GTX 980), I have a 1000w PSU and the CPU is water cooled and the temperatures are constantly under 50', Now what i want is someone to tell me what i need to do to fix this lag and get my PC running at the speeds i know it is capable of running at, Linus Tech Forums have never failed me in the past, So please cure me from this horrible problem, Much appreciated

firstly , the big red flag for me is the motherboard . It is based on the 970 chipset and DOES NOT support the 220W TDP cpus .

Your power phases  and stuff are probably already failing because of this . In fact , the board could even become a fire hazard .

Don't believe me ?

Yes, i was previously told by someone that my Motherboard doesn't support the CPU, But every Motherboard i look at never supports more than 150w, Even the ones that people told me supported my Motherboard didn't?

well , only the 120$ + 990fx boards do .

I would still bet that the mobo is the problem. The board and power might actually end up damaging / killing the cpu.
