Hi guys, so I've upgraded my computer thanks to a friend selling me some parts. It's nothing spectacular, but for $120 I went from my C2D e8400 build to:

i7 860 (OC'd)

16GB DDR3 (1600)

MSI (Something)

Combined with a newly purchased Sapphire R9 380 Nitro 4GB and my existing case and 550W Corsair PSU.

So yeah I know it's nothing spectacular but I don't have much money so it's hard to get something good. I'm very happy with it though, I've been running games such as Fallout 4 and GTA5 on Ultra at 1080p. So I'm very happy.

But I still want to try and have a mITX build so I can take it places. My question is, would buying this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128448&cm_re=i7_1156_mini_itx-_-13-128-448-_-Product

be an okay idea? I'd have to downgrade to 8GB RAM. From what I can tell, the massive cooler I have will just fit and so will the graphics card. The case I have lying around is this one:

Thanks for any advice! xD

Are you Australian by any chance?

Your machine is actually pretty good - my dad has an i7 870 and a Gigabyte mobo. Great performer considering its age.

Try eBay or Gumtree for some older mITX boards, since the H55 architecture is quite dated and hard to find boards for.

idk

Yep, I'm a little West of Western Sydney. xD

And thanks, I'm surprised too in regards to it's performance vs age.

I'm just not sure if what I'm wanting to do is stupid or not. Especially the RAM issue... Is 8GB sufficient? I did find a GA-H55N-USB3 for sale. AUD$150 though... And no WiFi or socket. I'd have to bodge an internal solution via one of the USB headers or something I'd guess. I don't like external WiFi sticks. ^_^

Thanks!

ZOTAC H55-ITX Wifi Mobo ==> also max. 8GB memory

Dell Alienware X51 Mobo==> Max 16 GB, i think there exist different versions regarding memoryspeed etcetc (picture on alibaba)

If the Dell X51 fits your needs maybe the 16GB mobo is a more solid option, if you can find it new or 2nd hand. I have read that this dell mobo is used in the Alienware X51 gaming desktop.

it's a prebuilt mobo, expect no features and even less support for it - in the one in a million chance something on Alibaba is original and genuine.

Than again, I don't plan on running two copies of Fallout 4 at once. Bit of a downgrade though, at the cost of portability.

you won't regret it however, portable machines are the best. if it really concerns you, you can just buy a 2x8GB kit and sell your 4x4GB kit.

idk

Thanks for the reply. It states a maximum of 8GB for the board. Is that per dimm or overall? I'd LOVE to have 16GB.

I could try borrow 2x 1.5v double-sided 8GB sticks and give them a go on the latest BIOS release? I've contacted Gigabyte to see if they can give me any tips/info but not a definite yes since it's technically not supported. Then again I doubt they care since it's a five year old board. :|

Thanks.
