Hey guys this is my first build and I want to see if I need any changes or not. I would like to have the price lower but a good build means a good power supply. Do I get extra points for a modular power supply on a budget build? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/NLYCf7

You NEED an SSD

get a 250 gb 850 evo

He doesn't if he's on a budget.

I'd much rather go for higher capacity storage first than get an SSD and skimp on the storage.

You don't need one. The build from a glance looks pretty good but wait for other to share their input first :)

what do you plan to do with this build? If you plan on doing gaming, an i5 would be a good investment for just a couple more dollars, for 50 dollars more you can get an i5 6400. It's your call and your money but a good cpu is just as important as a good power supply.

You know how it is, the cow goes "moo", the dog goes "woof" and the gamer goes "The PvP is unbalanced."

Spoiler

Personal Computer: CPU: i7-4790 Mobo: Asrock Z97 Extreme6 Graphics Card: MSI R9-380  Memory: 16GB (8GB x2) G. Skill Sniper Gaming Series PSU: Apevia Warlock 750W Case: NZXT Phantom 410 Series Storage: 240GB SSD (OS) 3TB HDD (data and such) 500 GB SSD (Movies and Large Data Transfers (I'm constantly moving this one around to other computers))

I play games like minecraft and games like cs:go and league of legends, even though the i5 will do me good, i think the i3 will do just fine for light gaming. thanks for the advice though :)

you can get a evga 600w psu from best buy for $40 which is 80+ certified or even a semi modular one with higher wattage for less and invest that money into getting a 960 or r9 280.

amazon even has a 700w bronze for $40 or a 750w semi modular for $70, and still use that extra money for a better card. check amazon warehouse deals for the card, you can get a 4gb 960 for $170 or newegg has a r9 380 for $170 after rebate.

modular is nice and all but if your case has space for cable management you can hide all those extra cables and have a better video card

but check amazon warehouse deals they have good deals on a lot of components just dont buy ram from them i had to return 2 sticks already, everything else was fine, including a seagate 2tb sshd i got for $66

if i post a link to amazon try to use the LTT affiliate code to help the channel http://www.amazon.com/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&tag=linustechtips-20

it reduced my boot time from 55 seconds to 20, plus programs and games will open abit faster, and file transfers, installs and uninstalls will also take less time

Don't skimp on the PSU otherwise you risk your whole system. The PSU is the MOST important part of your system.

An SSD is not worth it for a budget build it adds undue cost where it could be spent better elsewhere.

i would still go for a semi modular then because you would still have to connect the motherboard and cpu at a minimum and you get a higher wattage psu in case you plan to some higher end gaming

or even go with a g3258 and cheaper motherboard and overclock if you want to save money and still game, that being said i would stick with that motherboard just because its future cpu upgradability

just gotta weigh what u want, game now for cheap or setup for future high end gaming
