Hello everyone I thought I would ask here because everything I have done isn't working. I am having a big problem with my computer getting too hot. Is my first computer that I have successfully built by myself but the temperature does concern me sometimes. I will list the specs and my findings

Specs

Processor: i7 4790k

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970

Motherboard: z97x-Gaming 7

Case: Bit fenix Colossus

Cpu Cooler: H100i

Fans: 3x Arctic F12 pwm pst

Monitors: 3x Philips 22"

So when i am playing games my computer likes to get really hot and to combat this i have been using the PrecisionX software but it makes my computer sound like a jet. I would really like my computer to be some what quiet but i just don't know what to do.

When playing cities skylines i have noticed that my CPU has reached temps of 75 Celsius and my GPU is kept at 60 - 65 Celsius.

I also bought a NZXT case a couple months ago which is beautiful but i can't use it because it gets way too hot. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cities Skylines is a VERY CPU bound game, so it is likely to peg your CPU at max load for a good chunk of time. 75 C isn't terrible for a stress test, so I'd be temped to say it isn't bad here, but if it is concerning, you could always re-apply thermal compound, or try re-seating the CPU, or lastly, just clean any dust from the H100

Thats not too hot, the room temp is one of the hardest things to keep down. I struggle with that problem myself and i have the same specs.

The GPU temps look just about right. The CPU is a little on the hotter side, especially with that AIO cooler. Which game gets it up to 75C?

PS: Why can't you use that case? It allows for great airflow, it's not going to make anything run hotter.

Oops, reading fail, I now see you mentioned the game in the OP. Cities is very demanding on the CPU, but it still sounds a little on the high side to me. Have you applied the thermal paste yourself or used the one that was pre-installed on your AIO cooler? Also, have you stress tested the CPU alone with software like AIDA64?

Edit: As for the GPU, after some point you will find that raising the fans too high won't make much difference. And having the same card I can tell you, running it at above 60C is perfectly normal. So just find a fan curve that's good enough and comfortable to your ears at the same time.

due to the non-standard of PCB thickness of the motherboards, some are really thin and allow the pump/controller to fit loosely. the rubber o-rings tighten the "looseness" and apply a bit more clamping pressure to the IHS of the CPU and the coldplate of the pump/controller. a 3mm hole and 1mm o-ring cross (makes that a 3x5 o-ring) will fill that gap and allow some compression of the stand off if the PCB is thick.
