Looking for a new gaming laptop.

Was hoping I could get some help in regards to getting tips and such.

So, let's get to it,

The main Laptops I'm looking at right now are -

Dell Inspiron i7559-2512BLK i7

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015PYZ0J6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A3V5L3RN5VBL8S

Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK i5

http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-763BLK-Full-HD-GeForce/dp/B015PYYDMQ/ref=pd_rhf_dp_p_img_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=04VK835VGV38GVG7KWYP

The ONLY reason, I'm even looking at these two, is because of the VRAM on the memory. It's 4GB, as opposed to 2GB on some machines I've seen. Let's continue

ASUS ROG GL552VW-DH71

http://www.amazon.com/GL552VW-DH71-15-Inch-Discrete-GeForce-Metallic/dp/B01578ZKPO/ref=pd_rhf_dp_p_img_7?ie=UTF8&refRID=04VK835VGV38GVG7KWYP

MSI GE62 Apache

http://www.amazon.com/GE62-15-6-inch-i7-5700HQ-7200rpm-Computer/dp/B00YFE5OCQ/ref=sr_1_12?s=pc&rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1456890237&sr=1-12&keywords=MSI+GTX+960m&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011

I'd like to keep the laptop at 15.6'', help would be appreciated. And feedback as well.

Just a suggestion but does it have to be a laptop? Desktops get much better performance for the buck vs a laptop, also laptops are not upgrade able (to a certain degree). However if you need to get a laptop I would get the IdeaPad Y700

For example, for a $1,000 USD budget you can get a kick ass gaming PC.

GPU: XFX RX 7900 XTX

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D

I already have a Desktop. Built it myself, for around $1500. (Look in my profile.)

Reason why I want a gaming laptop is because I wanna game in my bed at extended duration. And, also because I have an upcoming trip to the other side of the world in 3 weeks. I want something to keep me not bored.

Well, for your price point, I think the Asus or the MSI are probably the best. The dell laptops just don't cut it for me at 8GB of ram. Sure, they have more vram but I'd probably stick with higher ram personally, unless you want to upgrade to 16 gb in the future on the dell. I've always liked MSI, so I'm biased when I say "that's your ticket" but I think it'll be the better buy. If you want to save a little more, a slightly better machine with 4gb vram and 16 gb ram would be better. I personally got my laptop from cyberpowerpc and I like it, but they have a 15.6" laptop for a little over $1100 with an i7-6700hq, 16 gb ram and a p60m with 4gb vram. That's a little higher, but I think it'll be better in the long run

Current Rig: ASUS Prime Z390-P, Core i7 9700k, 48GB DDR4 3200 G.Skill Ripjaws V RAM, EVGA RTX 2080 Super Black, 512 GB NVME SSD boot drive, 2TB HDD, 360mm CoolerMaster MasterLiquid AIO, 1200W Rosewill Photon power supply

Former Rig (RIP 11-29-19): Cyberpower Fangbook 4 Xtreme   CPU: Intel i7-6700K   GPU: Nvidia 980m 8GB   RAM: 24GB DDR4 2133   SSD: 250GB Samsung 850 EVO   Main Drive: 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 300

Did not think of lenovo, that's a nice laptop. FriedRyce, I think the lenovo's going to be a bigger bang for your buck on that one

Woah...

Holy shit.

That Lenovo one is good, real good. I'll have to put it up there as a strong consideration.

I was thinking, if I do buy either of those Dell models -

I would buy an extra 8GB stick, and put in a 1TB HDD, or get an external.

That's certainly doable. I personally would vote lenovo, but if you go dell, stay with the i7. just a bit better processor and then bump the ram and you're golden

This is a really hard choice, since I'm so limited on parts XD.

I wish laptops would be like building a PC, nearly an endless sea of parts.

you and me both, man. I take my computer all over the place, so I need the portability of a laptop, but when I wanted to build my rig, so few available configurations and customizable parts. I got the beauty I have now and she's wonderful, but I wish I could have a desktop on the go with desktop motherboard, gpu and cpu. I got the desktop grade cpu, but the gpu is a nvidia 980m, not the desktop 980, so 10% loss of power plus because it's a laptop, I shouldn't overclock it. I'd really like to open it up and take off the limits, but I'd need to redo all the stock cooling which ain't happening in a mass produced case :P

Well,

At this point,

I've made my decision. I'm going with the Dell Core i7 model. I know I could definitely do better, but, it'll work out. I'll buy it an extra stick of 8GB RAM, so that way it'll be 16gbs. I will probably also replace the SSD in the future, and put W7 on it.

I just picked up the Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK.  I got mine with the i5 6300hq and a 256gb m.2 ssd.  It come with 1 8gb stick of ram and the other slot is un populated.  Also there is a very large panel on the bottom that comes off with one screw, so upgrading ram/hdd/wifi is extremely easy.

So far the Dell has exceeded my expectations.  I don't know if they have revised the design, but as far as I can tell this thing is solid.  In Linus's review, he mentions how it has a considerable amount of flex on the keyboard but mine is a lot sturdier and won't flex at all.  The screen is very nice, I might just be lucky but there is absolutely no light bleed, it looks like a perfect panel.  It's butter smooth and so far haven't had a single issue, I even think the trackpad works great (maybe they revised it too?).  I haven't tested any games on it yet, but I have tomb raider installed and ready to go (I'll probably test it out tonight).

The thing that amazes me the most is probably the cooling system.  With Intel Burn Test, the cpu maxes out at around 60, which is insane considering it's less than an inch thick.  It has two fans with three large heatsinks (they are positioned right near the exhaust ports and the fins are colored red).  I haven't stressed the gpu yet, but I will be doing that either tonight or this weekend and I have a feeling it's not going to get very hot.

I haven't had it for very long (a couple of days) but so far I'm blown away at everything on it.  For $800, you are really getting a lot of hardware and it's not near as cheap feeling as all the reviews I watched/read said it would be.  I don't think there is anything on the market that will give you a better bang for your buck.  And if you want the i7 version, it's only $50 more on Amazon.
