So I have an r7 260x sapphire gpu (has no UEFI GOP VBIOS) and I was actively researching month ago on how to install my OS in UEFI mode, but I didn't find out anything. My interest was forgotten until last week I reinstalled my Windows from scratch, and I succeeded to install it in - apparently - UEFI mode (according to System Information). I checked it and if I turn CSM off it still fails to boot. What I'm curious about is what is the purpose of the entire CSM thing, and what is happening when CSM is activated? What crazy combination of UEFI and BIOS is going on in my PC?

Well, for starters, GPU firmware/BIOS has nothing to do with mobo UEFI/BIOS or installing OS.

CSM, from what I read, is needed if you OS boot drive uses MBR partitioning. If you want to turn CSM off, you would need to repartition OS drive to GPT and reinstall OS.

UEFI is newer version of BIOS. So essentially they are same thing.

Oh sorry

No it's not I simply have no idea on how this actually works, because AFAIK it shouldn't work like this

Is it possible that your SSD is not actually GPT? Just wanting to double check that to rule it out definitely.

Here is a screeenshot of System information, and diskpart, as a proof. (ofc Disk 0 is the SSD)

That is a very odd issue then. Not sure why it would matter if CSM is on or not. But I guess if it's not an issue, just leave it on
