Looking for speakers

My budget is absolutely max $200. I'd rather spend half of it.

I was at the store today and I noticed "EDIFIER C2XD" and I fell in love. Sadly I couldn't try them out.

They have great reviews on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Edifier-USA-C2XD-Optical-Multimedia/dp/B00ARDBANG/ref=cm_cr_pr_pdt_img_top?ie=UTF8

Should I buy them? They are pretty cheap too.

Any suggestions?

They are great speakers but if you want to be simple without a sub then the Mackie cr3/4's are good

With that budget, you can look into reference monitors. People say these are useless to regular consumers, but I beg to differ- even a gaming experience is elevated more by professional-grade speakers than it is by gimmicky surround headsets.

These might be to your liking.

They seem pretty nice, I like that they have headphone output as well.

But I do like aesthetics and the Edifier looks very nice and would look good with my build. And they have a remote which is a great + in my book.

Heh, you both like them huh? Maybe I should reconsider.
I probably won't use them for gaming. I do have a pair of audio-technica M50x. Do they compare?

Speakers and headphones are fundamentally different when it comes to audio. Speakers will also naturally have more soundstage as they use the natural reverb of the room. Open-back headphones emulate this to an extent but not as much.

Go with what you feel is right- a recommendation is just a recommendation.

I will go back to the store tomorrow and look at the edifier again. I might buy them if I'm tempted enough.

Just a tip- DIY functionality might be harder to implement in some areas, but aesthetics are simpler than you might think. Making the Mackies look more at home with your build is an easy task if you're up for it.

I live in a very small apartment so it would be hard to do at home. I could bring them to work and go nuts with some plasti-dip though.
