Hi,

I am planning for a itx build as it suits my current needs as it will be easy to move if i were to return to my home country since i am currently working overseas. For the moment i am looking at lian li pc-05 or silverstone rvz02. But of course if there are better suggestions around the size and form factor feel free to recommend :)

CPU: i7 6700 (not going to OC but maybe do some editing hence hyperthreading)

mobo: suggest me. (Will be using samsung 950 pro nvme m.2 ssd)

psu : silverstone SFX series

gpu : r9 nano(i will only be using this gpu)

ram:ddr4 16gb

storage : 3.5' is preferable however if not possible will be using hdd dock. So don't worry about hdd size when suggesting me a case

Basically i need help in case and mobo selection. I will majorly do 1440p gaming so i believe r9 nano is sufficient. Dun worry about availability in my place. Just recommend me. I will find a way thru it.

thank you in advance!

Cheers!

Marcus

Curious about the use of the 950, what's the goal with that? They tend to get hotter than the surface of the sun, but they are pretty neat. In terms of cases, I am a fan of the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv Mini for upright builds, or the Fractal Design Node 202 if you want a flat design that you can put a monitor on top of (it also does upright).

Motherboard :-

   Not In Budget:

   1) Gigabyte GA-H170N-WIF

   2) MSI B150I Gaming Pro AC

   3) ASRock Z170M-ITX/ac

   4) ASUS Z170I PRO GAMING

  In Budget:

   1) ASRock H110M-ITX

   2) MSIH110I Pro

   3) ASUS H110I-PLUS/CSM

Case: For case i will go with " HTPC " case because this case are thin and small.

For example : Silverstone ML or Silverstone GD or Fractal Design Node 202

   1) Silverstone ML03

   2) Fractal Design Node 202

This case is boxier, but has a handle to facilitate carrying. There is in fact a smaller case the PC-TU100 that I originally wanted to use, but the storage I am suggesting is taller (15mm) than normal 2.5" (9.5mm) units so I am not sure it can be mounted in the smaller case. If it can, it would be a better choice. The cpu cooler would have to be changed to stock or something like the Noctua NH-L9i.

Instead of an M.2(M) ssd, I would suggest going with a U.2 NVMe Intel 750 (I think they are the only U.2 available at the moment). On mini-ITX motherboards M.2 drives mount on the underside of the motherboard. Given the heat issues of these drives, particularly the 950 Pro, I would worry about overheating and damage to the motherboard itself.

Another advantage of the U.2 drive is that it is available in 480GB, 800GB, and 1.2TB capacities.

The Maximus VII Impact motherboard has a U.2 connector.

While I used a 2x8GB memory kit, one might consider a 2x16GB kit if budget allows. One might also go with 1x16GB. The problem with a single channel kit is the small performance hit in editing and other memory intensive applications.

The gpu is not a recommendation, merely a place holder.
