My laptop HDD is dying. This is the second drive that is doing this to me so I want to be smart this time. Right now its turned off. I can not buy a new HDD to image it too so thats out of the question. It is extremely slow anyway less than 5MB's on my guess. How can I be smart. This is an OS drive so only a few Critical files that I don't have copies of. These are childhood memories and thus very important. How to i save my data?

Boot into it, and copy the important files to a flash drive. Then run out and grab an SSD to replace it with.

The OS corupted

Whilst running out to grab the SSD, pick up a SATA to USB adapter and do the process on a second machine.

I can just plug it in now via sata and again I am poor.

Is there a way for you to access the data on the drive?

Yup. My main desktop is good

Plug the broken hard drive into your desktop and copy files over onto the desktop or a thumb drive.
