Trying to pull data from a main drive.

My buddy is having the CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED error on his PC. I'm down to a hard wipe and reinstalling Windows 7 for a fix. Before I do that he wants to get all of his pictures and videos off of the drive. Only issue is the computer won't boot past the error screen. Since I've never tried to get stuff off a drive like this before, I just want to make sure what I'm thinking will work. The plan is to pick up an enclosure and plug it into my PC and try to copy the files to my computer. Will that work with it having Windows installed on the drive?
