Yes, I'm aware of the lower quality of the CX psu, thus the decision to stick with a gold evga supernova.

Not worried about gpu choice at this point, my op just asking for wattage recommendation for i5-6600k plus gpu plus potential of OCing down the road.

My number one choice right now, particularly based on the deal available, is the 550w evga supernova G2, just want verification that I should be good to go wattage wise. I've spent a lot of time researching options for my price range

The 550W G2 should be more than you need so you're good.

Hey guys, I'm in the process of buying parts for my first build. I'll be going with an i5-6600k. Undecided on gpu - will start out with on board graphics and then look into the best gpu for my money down the road (will be looking in the ~ $200 range).

Right now there are some good deals on psus. I'm pretty well determined to go with a gold rated evga, ideally the G2, based on much reading although am open to other options.

Right now I can get the 550w G2 for $60 total. Another option would be the p2 650 for about $80 total. I've been torn on wattage, and despite reading a ton of material still can't decide. Stepping up to 750w and staying at least gold bumps me up closer to $100 to stay with the quality I'm looking for.

My current build has estimated 200w without gpu. I may do some mild overclocking down the road so want to leave a little headspace. Adding a GTX 970 puts me at about 350w. I  most likely will not be going to sli or crossfire at any point, I would put the money to one good gpu versus getting two.

So, is that roughly 200w headspace if I go with a gold 550w enough? Like I said this is my first build, trying to get the most bang for my buck, and if/when I OC it would be mild on both the cpu and gpu.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Well, for about 200 dollars, an R9 380/380X will do you best. Can we see the rest of your build please? We may be able to help a little bit. 550 should be enough for now.

A CX500 or even CX600 would be perfect choices. If you want modular, go with an EVGA nova 650

Thanks,

Reese

They are pretty awful PSU's.

The CX psus aren't good.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
