So I revived my Inspiron 5447 laptop with a new mobo, but I couldn't afford the board model with the onboard Radeon card. A few months have passed, and I now have the desire to get into video production for a hobby on Youtube. I looked up a lot of methods to do this, and I believe that something like this: http://www.banggood.com/EXP-GDC-Laptop-External-PCI-E-Graphics-Card-p-934367.html in conjunction with a decent video card would put me where I need to be. Can anyone vouch for the reliability of products like this and how well they function? If I were to implement this, I would have to use the slot currently being used for my wireless card, so I want to be sure before I take the plunge.

I recomend a card like a r9 380. you will also need a desktop power supply...

My rig: r7 1700 @ 3.9/1.35v, 16gb ddr4 3200, assorted rando SSDs, hx 1050, vega 64 1650/1025

Glad to hear it! I'm excited to get this project up and running. I might just cram all of this into a desktop case for the heck of it. :P

From personal experience I disagree. I'm not saying they're bad, it's just there are better ones :)

...I don't think you can say from the experience of everyone they are the best...especially after I said they aren't lol. That's not how the word "everyone" works.

Regardless, not here to argue. Let's just try and help the OP.

I can't find any new data so this is outdated. Read through the statistics here = http://www.techpowerup.com/mobile/138174/antec-psus-achieve-lowest-failure-rate-study.html

Like I said, not here to argue mate :) I am also aware SeaSonic provide PSUs to Antec, the statistics are different. I'm not saying Antec are the best here either. I'm just saying SeaSonic, from my PERSONAL EXPERIENCE are not. That's not to say everyone should stay away. I personally am.

Does antec even make their own PSU's?  Most companies source their PSUs from Seasonic or one of the other brands and then rebadge it.  Seasonic is one of the top tier PSU brands.

The "I" in my sentence really is important. Regardless this thread has gone off topic from the OP's question. Let's leave this for another thread.

Yes. Please no debates. I'm only going to be using my PSU for the graphics card anyway, so it's not like I need anything stellar. I was eyeing Thermaltake because I like their products, but anything will work. If I have a little extra to spare, I will consider that Seasonic unit though. Thanks for the input, everyone.

Last time I checked there was a deal on EVGA supernova power supplies at SCAN computers. Could check there? :)
