I have a SB6120. My cat crewed the power cable. So I need a new cable modem. I know I can get another power cable off ebay. But I had this box for the longest when Docis 3.0 came out.

I heard rumors of Docis 3.1. I wonder if its okay to get the SB6190 or wait for the rumor SB8200 which is Docis 3.1. I want to be future proof til 2025 or something. Any ideas?

I didn't think a modem had a lot to do with ones Internet speed and such other then to provide access.  It's the router or switches behind it that make the difference.

Call your isp they will replace it, my isp replaced mine after it quit working.

Depends on what your paying for. The max I will spend on my locate ISP is $150. And that's just internet alone. I haven't rented a comcast box in a long time and never will.

I'd just get a replacement power cable and replace the modem when 3.1 modems hit the market. Doesn't make much financial sense to buy a 3.0 modem now, only to replace it with a 3.1 modem within the year (hopefully).

thats what I'm thinking

But you still need to know what is compatible with their systems.  http://mydeviceinfo.xfinity.com/

the sb6190 is supported the newer modem isn't out yet so its not on there list yet. but it supports the 3.0 spec.
