Sleep mode boot loop

My neighbor brought me his PC and gave a list of 3 issues it has.

DVD drive won't read

PC boot loops coming back from sleep

PC won't power on now

 

Issue 1 and 3 were fixed, (Cleaned it out, reseated everything and replaced drive), but I can't replicate the sleep issue.  I never in my 10+ years of working/building PC's have I used sleep mode.  Is this more of a board issue or an HDD issue?  It's a Dell Optiplex 980.  I am currently flashing the bios.

I let my friend build my pc a few years ago (because I built his) and had the exact same issues.

 

Turned out the idiot installed the front panel connectors incorrectly. +/- connectors for the power/reset were reversed.

 

Not sure if your problem may be the same but ..hope it helps! :D
