Does anyone know of any software that will  use a front end GUI to access files/folders on a network share??   Something like a replacement explorer window for file explorer.   In other words, the only way you would be able to access the share is through the vault GUI and not through windows or another OS.

So in my company we have multiple "job folders" in a single network share.

1

2

3

4

etc

each folder  then has internal work group folders where each work group saves their data

1

>a,b,c,d etc

2

>a,b,c,d, etc

etc, etc

users of workgroup a, should not be able to access b,c, d, etc... unless they have specific authorization to do so.

when we set up a new job, we just copy a blank folder that has this structure already built, rename the folder and were off to work.  (this is where permissions problems come in)

in addition, I would like for users who need to work with these folders  to have to "check out" the folder so that no other user can use, or make modifications to it, until its checked back in and closed. (solidworks epdm records these events)

More granular permissions for folders inside each main folder would be nice as well. Microsoft security permissions will only inherit the main folder permissions, not the desired and set permissions inside each workgroup folder when you  copy/paste the original base folder.

using the vault to generate new job folders, populated with workgroup folders for new jobs would solve the permissions issues, as well as the over write issues.  it would also keep me from having to give everyone their own account, and we can stick to public PC's.  (they would just log into the vault using smart card)

unfortunately I cant find software to do this.  Autodesk vault wont work, niether will solidworks PDM.

Any ideas?  i have looked everywhere.
