I am new to pc building as this will be my first, but I have literally watched hundreds of videos in the past couple months, so I think I can at least understand the jargon/information. I don't really have a set budget because I am more interested in building the right pc. That said, I don't really see the need to spend more than $3000 (US), if a $1500 pc will suit my needs then all the better. I am not a hardcore gamer, just like to play on the weekends and have a good time. The games I play aren't very graphic intensive (H1Z1 etc.) only because I don't have the pc to run other games. I would like to be able to play Shadow of Mordor and Crysis 3 etc. with this build. I am also not really interested in 4k. I would much prefer higher frame rate than ultra super sharp hair and grass that costs a lot more money. Not really interested in hardcore video editing either, the occasional GoPro video but nothing more. After the long post, here is my parts list:

CPU: I7-6700k

GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SC+ ACX 2.0 or a EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC+ ACX 2.0+ (I know the 980 is better, but for my purposes I don't know if it is worth 2x the price)

MOBO: MSI Z170A Gaming M7

SSD: Samsung 950 Pro 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2

HDD: WD Black 1 TB

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2400MHz C14

CPU Cooler: Corsair H110i GT

Case: Corsair Carbide Air 540

PSU: Corsair AX860i (I know this might be overkill, but I would rather error on the side of caution)

OS: Windows 10

Totaling about $2,100 on Amazon (using the 970, add an extra $300 for the 980)

Not included in price are peripherals because I can (hopefully) get them as gifts:

Corsair K65 RGB Keyboard

Logitech G303 Daedalus Apex Mouse

Corsair Gaming VOID USB RGB Headset

Acer XB270HU Monitor (This is the area I know the least about, I only want one monitor and Linus' video prompted me to put this one on my list)

Any help with my list would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Good build but the 950 pro is extremely overkill.  If you're looking for it as a boot drive, an 850 EVO is more than enough.  Also, since you plan on getting a 1440p Gsync monitor, I'd suggest getting a 980ti.

i5-4690k@4.5GHz || MSI GTX 970 || MSI z97 Gaming 5 || NZXT Kraken x61 || WD Black 1TB || Crucial MX100 || 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro || Corsair RM750 || NZXT H440 || Corsair k70 RGB mx browns || Acer H236HL || ViewSonic VX2255wm-4

Good components, though that is a 980ti, not a 980.

If price is a huge concern, I may recommend a Skylake I5 or Haswell I7 instead of the 6700k.

But a 970 should suffice.

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

I went for the 4790k as it is the best bang for the buck, coupled with a z97 board and an AIO will allow good overclocks.

I stayed with 16gb RAM, a 1tb HDD, 500gb of SSD storage, and a 980ti reference card.

The S340 is a great mid tower for the price.

The HX750i is one of the finest PSUs corsair currently makes, as it is extremely quiet and rated at 80+ Platinum

and of course windows 10

Snorlax: i7 5820k @4.5ghz, Asus X99 Pro, 32gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 2666, Cryorig R1 Ultimate, Samsung 850 evo 500gb, Asus GTX 1080 ROG Strix, Corsair RM850x, NZXT H440, Hue+

Smallsnor: Huawei Matebook X

Canon AE-1 w/ 50mm f/1.8 lens

Pentax KM w/ 55mm f/1.8 SMC lens

Zenit-E w/ 58mm f/2 Helios lens

Panasonic G7 with 14-42mm f/3.5 lens

Polaroid Spectra System

PCPartpicker.com is your friend.

You might consider an R9 390X gpu. Performance and cost wise it sits between the GTX 970 and GTX 980.

If you stay with the GTX 970, go with a 550W or 650W psu as the build will draw less than 450W. EVGA 210-GQ-0650-V1 or SeaSonic SSR-550RM would be reasonable choices.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
