Hey,

I am planning on starting a storage server once Drive Share become public. I am looking to spend around 400$. I have a basic parts list that I am planning to use. http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Lilithty/saved/tfGp99

I dont plan to use a case. If i have to i will just jury rig an old PC case and Frankenstein it to fit everything.

My overall plan is to use a Syba RAID card and connect two 1-5 Port Port multiplier cards to the raid card.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,

Is that a used RAID card or something? because real RAID cards cost way more and have a lot of stuff in there for data protection like a controller, RAM and a battery back up, does that one just have sata ports?

also why not just use FreeNAS?

And are you use those drives aren't used/refurbished?

This one's a bit lower power, probably better for a server that's going to run all day. And the motherboard has 4 sata ports, so just get larger drives and you should be fine.

You'll also want a battery back up for the PC.

My bad,

Yes these are just normal SATA cards. My bad.

What would be the advantage of using FreeNAS as the OS on this?

And yes. I could use larger drives. I just found a good deal on those 2 tb drives. If I can find a good deal on larger drives I will go with those.

Thanks for the updated parts list.
