Hi there!

I'm planning a ram upgrade to my system (for gaming) which has the following:

- i5 2500K
- P67A-GD65
- MSI GTX 970
- Samsung 850 EVO
- Noctua NH-D14

At the moment I have a 2x4 Gb of G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 MHz (http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-12800cl9d-8gbxl).

I'm wondering if it's worth (gaming wise) to upgrade to 16 Gb of ram and, in such case, I have two choices:

a. add another 2x4 Gb kit like the one above mentioned for a total of 4x4 Gb (cheaper solution)
b. buy a new 2x8 Gb kit (less cheaper, of course)

I've heard having all of the 4 memory slots populated can be negative on overall system performance (memory controller overload); also overclocking becomes more problematic. Is that true?

Do you guys think:

1. is it worth upgrading in first instance?
2. if so, better going for 4x4 Gb or 2x8 Gb?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wouldn't be worth upgrading specifically for gaming.

Would instead save the money and maybe put it towards a platform upgrade.

See my Build here!

Intel 6700k -  Strix GTX 1080Ti - Corsair AX760 - Corsair Dominator 16GB 3000MHz - ASUS Maximus VIII Hero

Seagate Barracuda 1TB -  Samsung 120GB 840 - Samsung 840 EVO 250GB - Corsair H100i - Corsair Air 540 White -

Corsair AF120 - 2x Noctua NF-F12 - 3 x Noctua NF-S12

 Dell S2417DG - Dell UH2515H

^ This Exactly ^

My Rig: 2x Xeon x5690 @ 3.45Ghz 24GB DDR3 EEC RAM Asus STRIX GeForce GTX 970 SuperMicro X8DT3 Windows Server 2008 R2

Here's a little TL;DR of what you need to know about the GTX 970 and R9 390

R9 390 works better in VRAM-bound scenarios and compute bound scenarios and is best paired with higher end processors

GTX 970 works better in CPU-bound scenarios and tessellation bound scenarios and is best paired with lower end processors
