I don't know if this is the right thread to post this in but, I recently saw Linus' new personal rig set up, where he has his PC in another location and uses a thunderbolt hub to get all of his I/O accesable at his desk.

Until Linus makes a full in-depth review of this solution, I was wondering if anyone has ever tried this, or if anyone else has a similar solution, and what is the pros/cons.

Thanks!

Cons: Really fucking expensive...

The cable alone was 300 USD per computer. The thunderbolt add in is 100 USD, and the hubs are generally 100-400 dollars.

While that is pretty expensive, it would be worth it for silent computing. Is there any input lag, or compatability issues? I have 2 monitors, one being 1440p G sync, 144hz, and the other 1080p 60hz.

Not likely. You do have to pass through displayport, but outside of that it's pretty easy to set up.

IMHO it's not worth it at all, but I like looking at my computer, and it's already a super quiet build.

I like looking at my computer as well, but the problem for me is that it's located in the room I sleep in, and I am a very light sleeper, and just the lights and the low fan speed is enough to keep me awake. Right now I turn my computer on/off every night, but it would be nice to keep it on over night.

Get an I/R controller for the lights and use fan controllers to turn all your fans off at night (when my computer idles for more than 15 minutes the core temps drop low enough to turn off all my fans. Normal idle/video use has about 1/2 the fans on and the rest at about 400 rpm.
