Switches.

BlackHat2000

So I've been running off Wi-Fi for a while and am making the change to wired. My router is upstairs and was thinking with my cave having all my stuff, a gigabit switch would be fine for my appliances. Is that correct? I don't wamam fuq it up

You will probably want to look for an unmanaged switch. They're mostly plug and play. Plug in WAN from your modem and then you can load up the ports. If you want to get into more detailed stuff, QoS, LAG, vLANs you would have to get a managed switch. Those can be found in the secondary market for fairly cheap if you're lucky. New they can go for quite a bit, 250+ easy.
