Hey guys,

I was trying to overclock my i5 4690k, I was able to stress test it with AIDA64 for about 8h. I had no issues, I put my multiplier to x46 (4.6Mhz) and a Core voltage(Vcore) at 1.25, as soon that I put the Vcore on Adaptive with a offset of +0.050 I can't even boot to the OS. If I leave it to Manuel at 1.25vcore I'm fine. Pretty new to overclocking CPU, I watched the videos of Linus on the Devils Canyon, I tried to follow what he was explaning about the adaptive, maybe I have to modifiy the offset maybe? I got a max temp of 71C under full load with this 4.6 overclocking and an average temp of 55C-60C. I guess I could go a bit higher with adding more Vcore. Will wait to see some feedbnacks of you guys.

Thanks in advanced!

well i have nothing to say. i have the same cpu as you, but mine doesn't oc barely at all, i lost the silicon lottery. im genuinely pissed. you and your *puts little finger on the edge of my mouth* only 4.6Ghz  oc. ffs i can get like 4Ghz on all cores with reasonable(1.25-1.3) vcore. sorry for my rant. im gonna go back to my corner and cri like a kid

I feel bad for you, that sucks!

What motherboard do you have? What is your llc settings set to? It could be that your motherboard bios doesn't handle adaptive voltage very well.

My rig:
CPU: i5 4690k 24/7 @4.4ghz (1.165v) Max 4.7ghz (1.325v) COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 MOBO: Asus Z97-A   RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical   GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC   PSU: EVGA GS 650W   CASE: NZXT Phantom 530 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB + WD Black 2TB

Ok, try setting the llc to level 3 or 4 if 3 doesn't work (assuming the max is 9 like my z97-A if not set it to about 1/3 of max don't) and try again. If it still doesn't work with a manual llc check to see if there is a bios update that mentions fixes to adaptive voltage. Other than that, I can't think of anything else. I hope it helps

I just tried with level 3 and 4 and still have the same issue can't boot on the OS. Will check for the BIOS update maybe. Is it my offset that maybe affect it? If I leave it to manuel at 1.25 vcore I guess it will be bad long term? Do I have to play around with the Turbo settings to?

Enable turbo and speed stepping with adaptive. The offset adds a bit more voltage and is usually a good idea to have a small offset on adaptive, you could drop it to 0.010, 0.050 is pretty high. If it just doesn't work, manual voltage will be fine.
