Dac that takes mic input?

yeah, its called an audio interface

usually costs a lot more than $6 though

yea, I just got the $6 adapter because I didn't know about dacs when I got it and had no idea it might be downgrading my audio.

DAC stands for Digital to Analog Converter, basically the music files on your computer are being converted to analog signal (sound waves).

 

A microphone does the opposite thing, converting the analog signal to digital. 

 

There may or may not exist a DAC with a mic pass through, but i've honestly never seen one.
