Hi I'm building a freenas plex and blu Ray ripping box and I was wondering what the better chip would be

It depends on the Xeon. An X5450 is just as fast and normally cost less, and they are binned higher so as a result they consume less power, run cooler and overclock like nothing else (except Sandybridge unlocked i5 and i7).
