So I got a r9 390 for Christmas which I love however i have noticed it being help back by my CPU, so I want to upgrade, I am looking at a i5 4690k or a i5 6600k I don't know what to go with, it will be used mainly for gaming. Also if I got the i5 6600k would I need some new DDR4 RAM or will I be fine with DDR3? If you could reccomend a motherboard to go with either that you recommend I would really appreciate it! Thank you to anyone who replies!

Here you go: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FRL96h. This Xeon is as good as i7-4770. It only doeasn't have an Intel HD, but that's not a big problem (actually, it's not a problem at all xD).

Thank you!! I notice the motherboard is a micro atx, should I go for a bigger one if my case can support it? Or won't it make a difference?

Size doesn't matter unless you want crossfire in the future. Also, get an ATX board if your case support it because it looks better xD And what specific PSU? CX 750?

I personally wouldn't buy a Xeon.

FX-8350

i5-4460

i5-6500

i5-4690 and K version

i5-6600 and K version

i7-4790 and K version

Those are all great. Personally, I wouldn't buy a 6700K unless you have a large budget as it is way more expensive than the 4790K while still basically being the same thing except slightly newer. We still need to know what type of mobo you want, like ATX, Micro ATX, or Mini ITX. Corsair CX series PSUs are literally one of the worst products ever made so do not buy them. The EVGA 550w GS series PSU is pretty good.

My legit rig:

CPU: i5 6600k GPU: Asus Strix 1070 RAM: 16 GB of Corsair LPX CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X61 Motherboard:  Asus Z170I Pro Gaming Storage: Adata Sp550 120 GB and WD Black 3 TB Case: NZXT Manta Power Supply: EVGA 550 GS Monitors: 2 LG 25UM58-P Ultrawides Keyboard: Cooler Master Quickfire Rapid-i Mouse: Logitech G502 RGB

Fair play :P and it is a Evo labs Cronus 750w psu, bit ghetto but it was the best I could afford

Buy any motherboard that supports this Xeon.

Why not? FX-8350, i5-4460 and i5-6500 are worse than that Xeon. Overclockable CPUs (the last three you mentioned) are good but they require a more expensive motherboard, additional cooling and a decent power supply if you want to get good and stable OC. Because of that, the Xeon is the most practical CPU in this case.

Best I would like to do. Yeah I know it's £20 more but it's a 6600k :P Also, I hope you have an aftermarket cooler already.

If your current system uses DDR3, no. Skylake is DDR4 only, the DDR3 board exist just because.
