PSU Running off its housing, is it possible?

justMiga

I'm Building a sytem into a "non-case". The Psu it's an old 550w one that will power up an Athlon x2 4600+ and a r7 265. The computer will be an HTPC. The problem is that the housing of the PSU is too big to fit into the "Case" and i found that i can just take out the PCB of the PSU and mount it. Will the PSU Still work(There will be a Fan blowing air on to it), will there be any interference with the signal of the Motherboard or I can do this?

Don't do that it might work but the internals of a psu can be toxic if you do this make sure you  have equipment to protect you

I have an Anet A8 as my project printer and a i3 MK3 for when I want things to work.

I extrude my own filament and haven't saved a penny yet.

its a bad idea. PSU have allot of current going through them and if something were to touch inside there you could burn down your house.  It would be safer to just cut the case to fit the PSU or run the PSU out of the case then to open it up and run the PSU Bare

Don't take the psu apart unless you are familiar and well versed with electronic equipment (an electric discharge can harm you). Especially don't try to turn it on while it's out of its housing. Maybe you should buy an sfx psu.

Hmm, Just what i was thinking, not grat idea. I'm Gonna try to cut the PSU Case and see if it will fit. If it doesn't i'm going with a SFX PSU. Is Silvestone the only one Manufacturing them?
