I did it the same way I do with CPU.. Take off the cooler + heat sink, wipe away old thermal paste, replace with new thermal paste.

For me, after replacing the stock fans with new OEM fans (don't ask why, the old fans were borked) and replacing the thermal paste with some nice NT-H1, my temps went from ~76-78C down to ~56C, barely ever reaching 60C.

I've always chosen the NT-H1 due to it's ease of application, no need for a spatula to spread paste, pretty good viscosity.

- Be careful with the PCB and connectors which power the fan and any LED's that might be on the cooler.

- Clean off the old thermal paste with something that won't leave lint. Popular choices are coffee filters, cotton swabs or a tooth brush that you're not using for brushing teeth.

- Optionally use a PCB cleaning solution of some kind or 99% isopropyl alcahol

- If your GPU cooler has thermal pads on it try to avoid them falling off, sliding around or getting them dirty.

- Use electrically non-conductive thermal paste.

- Use the right size screw driver for the screws to avoid stripping and ensure that the screws which mount the cooling block to the GPU are tightened evenly and snugly but not over-tight.

- After reinstalling graphics card run benchmark while monitoring temps.
