HDMI cable, avoid converting if you can, always avoid it if you can. there can be a lot of problems doing so.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

They mean, don't go from DVI to HDMI or HDMI to DisplayPort.  It can mess up the signals usually so you should always try to pair them up properly like HDMI to HDMI DisplayPort to DisplayPort.  (Not sure about DisplayPort to mDisplayPort.  I think that should be fine)
