Hello and thank you for reading and I hope you can help.

I have an i5-4670K in a Z87-G43 (blue board), the stock clock is 3.4ghz and it boosts to 3.8ghz. I have not got round to overclocking it as of yet. The core speed speed has always worked normally and adjusted as it is used or not, upp to 3.8ghz.

However, I wanted to try the OC Genie feature on my motherboard so I went into the Bios and turned it on. This gave 4.0ghz and it did not go higher than this. I then turned the Genie off and reset my PC.

The clock speed is now staying as 3.4ghz and will not go up or down, I have checked it with HWmonitor and also the intel extreme tuning utility.

Any help as to get the processor back to normal would be massively appreciated please,

thankyou!

Excellent thankyou for the reply, how would I do that please/

you will need to reboot your computer, as soon as it beeps begin spamming <DEL>

After your in it should be a shortcut like <F7>. It should have a list of shortcuts in one of the corners of the screen telling you which to use. The name of the shortcut will be something along the lines of "Revert to Factory Default Settings"

If that doesn't work report back please

You can also short the pins on the motherboard itself, and some boards have a reset button on the rear IO.

I looked in the Bios and I could not find any way of factory resetting it. So I turned my PC off and removed the battery on the Mobo for about 5 minutes.

I have turned it back on and the clock speed is still sat at almost exactly 3400mhz, do you have any ideas i could please try, thankyou

So it's still not boosting?

Cause that will reset any OC you had on it.

i know this may sound dumb, but have you gone into the settings of the BIOS and made sure Turbo is still on? If it is, verify its still trying to turbo to 3.8 and not a lesser number like 3.4. Its possible it reset to the lowest frequency that the turbo can do.

I have had similar trouble with an old motherboard not properly resetting the turbo back to default.

If this doesn't work I'd probably look for a bios update. This may be a fixed issue with a new version.

Also another stupid thing, but make sue the OC genie is not still enabled.

Here is the bios update page for your Motherboard. I see some microcode updates and other things that may fix this problem. But, this problem should be somewhere else on the internet - I'd think.

From what I can see OC Genie is not enabled.

I can only turn boost on or off, I cannot find a way to change the boost speeds.

Thankyou for your help so far

Hmm im not sure what else to try, ill lookup some info on your Motherboard and try to see if there is any other options, only other one i can think of right now would be try to update your BIOS to the latest update and see if that helps.

OR possibly have you tried clearing the CMOS?

Note: If you clear your CMOS all your BIOS settings will be changed. If your computer doesn't boot by default settings this is something to consider. You can see an example of a machine that doesn't boot by default setup on one of the latest LTT video 'Overclocking $30,000.00 computer"

However i suspect that your on a computer that will boot off of the default BIOS setup.
