High end air cooler vs low end water cooler

Hey guys,

so my build is practicly finished and i need a cooler for my i5-6600k. I am wondering if i should get a low end water cooler (like Cooler Master Seidon 120 V.2 for 55€) or a fan for the same price (like Be quiet! Shadow Rock TOPFLOW SR1 for 54€). Also i would like to know if i can use lga1150 or lga1155 socket coolers to cool lga1151 procesors. Please help :(

I would go with air cooler compare to 120mm AIO.

1155, 1150 and 1151 all use the same coolers to answer your last question.

Yes .. NH-D15/BE Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3 would be high end option.

Sorry I don`t know much about coolers. But I assume you suggest a expensive cooler instead of a low end watercooler.

well it really depends on your use case. A high end air cooler like a D14/D15 or a R1 or a Dark Rock Pro 3 would outperform a low end AIO while having less points of failure. But they obviously wouldn't fit in most small cases. So if you're working in a small case but want better performance than a low profile air cooler would give you then a cheaper AIO would be better but if you have the space there's not much reason to get a cheap AIO.

The Noctua NH-D14 is a high end air cooler that can fit into a smaller mid tower as opposed to many other high end air coolers where u should really check clearance before buying (the NH-D15 is bigger though). A lot of cheaper/budget mid-towers wont fit some of the high enders. High end air cooling can almost match high end AIO so its no contest if your looking at a performance perspective. Space is the real consideration here.

Cryorig R1 Universal or Cryorig R1 Ultimate are really aesthetic if that matters to you, and perform similarly to the NH-D15 and Dark Rock Pro 3. Dark Rock Pro 3 is notable for silence, also aesthetics.

Whats your case?

Do you know what the clearance is for a cooler? Is there a spec sheet or something.  Make sure you know before buying the cooler I guess
