Hi guys,

I'm helping my friend build his computer but I'm not really familiar with the new Intel processors and the DDR4 and whatnot so I need your advice.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/H2VC3C

This is what we've came up with and I need your advice if everything is compatible. If you have any suggestions feel free to comment.

Also, how hard is it to install the CPU cooler. I've built several computers but I've never needed to install a custom CPU cooler.

Thanks for your help!

I'd rather base the build around a Xeon. Better performance but cheaper than an i7. You just loose the iGPU, but I guess you won't be using it anyways.

Not my list, but: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/62fYMp

A good alternative. Just swap out the case, GPU and storage etc.

Hyper 212 Evo is very easy to install and is a great cooler. I like the build however I would reccomend 16GB's of RAM if this PC is for gaming.

Great! I'm glad that it's easy to install. The build has 2x8 GB which is 16GB.

I'd personally use Xeon in my build buy my friend however is not that particularly amazed with the idea.

Overall a good build, though I would make a few changes:

1. I find the Samsung 850 EVO 240GB to be a much better deal.

2. A basic liquid cooler such as the H55 from Corsair will go a long way.

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Off topic, but what enclosure are you using for your eGPU?

Primary Build: i7-4790 · 16GB Hynix DDR3-1600 · Sapphire Tri-X R9 390x · NZXT S340 · Win10 Pro · Seagate Barracuda 1TB T_T

Portable: 2015 Retina Macbook Pro 13" · i5-5257u · 512GB PCIe SSD · Intel Iris 6100 T_T

If my post helped you, please rate it!

I'd get a 390 if you aren't going to be needing cuda.

Akitio ThunderBox 2. I have a ITX verson 960 from Zotac. It works out of the box in Windows, even though the Akitio packaging states "Graphics cards not supported." It is basically identical to the one Razer showed off at CES 2016, just way way way smaller.

Why not? It is more power for less money. It also gives him 2 extra cores.
Unless he is going to use his computer without a discrete GPU, I don't see a single reason for not getting a Xeon.

Hmm, I have had a bad experience with AMD drivers unfortunately both on Linux and Windows and since the PC will use both OSs I'd prefer to have Nvidia which has much better proprietary drivers.

I've never installed a Liquid Cooling system before so I wouldn't go for it until I get one for myself and fiddle with it. :D

I'm in Europe but will buy parts specifically in Germany because of the lower price. So the parts I initially sent were okay in terms of price.

Guys thanks for the recommendations and tips! I'll check back with you once my friend gets all the parts to tell you how it all went! Hopefully Evo 212 doesn't give me any headaches. :D
