Framerate unexplicably went down significantly

dukethedj

This morning, my framerate in the games I play (TF2, CSGO, etc) was at 60 FPS maxed out, no problems. But after I restarted my PC because my mouse stopped working, I am lucky enough to get 20 FPS at lowest settings and at lowest resolution. Nothing that I know of has happened other than the mouse could effect it. What could be happening???

All good :-) Are you crossfireing the onbord and discrete cards? If so try just using the R9 270 and see what happens...

Nope. The only video processor is the 270. No CrossFire. Just the 270

How thorough should I be.? I see no dust on the PCB. But, I just remembered that I sprayed some Febreze in my room at around that time. While I sprayed it on the other side, it still could have gotten into the case. Could the moisture have done that?

I dunno... I am not a pro obviously... Just throwing some ideas out there... I dont think it should need to be too thorough... just blow into the mobo connection to make sure there isnt dust in there too...

What's your CPU usage like in game?

And holy mother of ram 32 gigs is almost more $$$ than your 270.

What the heck are you using it for?

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

CPU usage is 100%, and my FPS is actually lower after restarting. Like 10 FPS in my blank TF2 Server

And the 32 gb was purchased on Black Friday for $100. I make music and I load my samples and plugins in ram to lower latency. On bad days, I can get up to 25 GB usage.

That would explain the low FPS, could you take a screenshot of the processes tab of task manager?

Got a maximum of 11 FPS. CPU was stuck at 99% and GPU usage bounced anywhere from 1% to 23%

Well clearly your CPU is doing something. It's bottle necking your GPU.

After you close origin, you've got an extra 25.1% of your CPU. Where does that go?

The 25.1% goes to WMI Provide Host. I even closed all programs except for Steam and windows processes and I still have a low (But higher) framerate in TF2 (20 FPS). Task Manager said there was a 80% CPU usage after closing everything.

This suggests that a virus called 'search conduit' is causing the problem

Do you have a program in your program list called 'search conduit'?

Nope. I recognize everything installed.

But its kind of funny that the very demanding games like Battlefield 4 can get 72 FPS on Ultra while TF2 cant even get 20 at minimum.
