Where/what are you going to be using these for? Home use? Home and on-the-go? Is the environment going to be noisy? Get the 558's, they're open so when you go on an airplane just use in-ears or something. I own a pair I got back in 2010 and they are very good for the price. Though I've never heard the HD558s, I do have a pair of Hd595s which should be comparable in terms of sound quality. Between the two, the MDRs has better low end and a crisper treble while the 595s have a more open sound stage and natural/relaxed sound. It's honestly a toss up depending on what you listen to. For things like rock, hip hop, or edm, I'd suggest the Sonys. The Sennheisers would be better for acoustic and vocal music.
