This is currently lowest price of the drive anywhere...

Is this drive better than the other 3TB drives out there for the price? (if you need 3tb)

I'm under the impression its just a seagate barracuda 3tb inside a external cage? (which is more expensive to buy than this for some reason o_o)

Thanks!

It doesn't make a difference for an external hdd.

It's just a 3tb barracuda you can just take it out of the enclosure and put in your desktop.

Is sata 6 faster than usb 3.0?

Also does it void the warranty if you remove the drive from the enclosure?

Yes, it'll void warranty.

Off the top of my head, SATA 3 is at max 6 gbit/s whereas USB 3.0 is 5gbit/s.

So will using sata instead of USB 3.0 be noticeably faster for transferring and accessing files?

Would rather not void the warranty...

My current 2tb WD drive has 50gb space left and that's going to be filled very quickly, its also on its way out (its so old)....so I'm in dire need of another drive.

It will make no difference. The average transfer speed of a modern HDD would not be bottlenecked even by SATA I (1.5 Gb/s), so you will not be held back by the USB 3.0 interface.

You might be held back by USB 2.0.

Ok then I can just keep it as usb 3 then.

Thanks.

If you are using your ssd as the os/boot drive, you should be fine with usb 3, though there might be some issues from time to time. Personally, I would prefer to not have too many external devices, but if you really don't want to void your warranty, it should be fine with usb 3
