What motherboard do you have? If it has got bad VRMs you won't be able to overcolck it much. How do your temps look like? Which cooler do you have? If you overclock, overclock with the multiplier and maybe adjust the voltage in case yor UEFI doesn't do it automaticly.

Asrock Z87 Extreme 4, Corsair H100i, 4.1ghz and 1.3v @ 72c max. Won't go above 4.1 max voltage I tried was 3.9 and I just thought that was way to high.

So I think the motherboard itself isn't the problem. Haswell has had some OC thermal problems. 72°C looks pretty high since you have an AIO. The problems are CPU thermals. The max. temp Intel allows until it throttels or gest unstalble is 72,2°C. So maybe think about removing the heatspreader, applying new thermal paste to the die and trying agian if you really want to OC. This will definetly void your waranty.

I thought 90c was when it starts throttling? Whats the max voltage I should be using? I assumed it was just my cpu not wanting to go over 4.1 without crazy voltages.

I wouldn't go over 1.4 jsut try it, do a stabilyty test and look at the temps if it's still under 80° (what I expect) ist allright imo
