Hey guys, I'm getting Pretty fed up with windows, while it seemed nice at first I'm getting tired of it and Feel like I should try moving back to Linux, however I am using an AMD Athlon 5350 APU (No dedicated GPU, yet) and I am wondering if there are any variants that do not work such hardware.

My procrastination is the bane of my existence.

I make games and stuff in my spare time.

I've heard of something called RemixOS? To be honest, I have no idea what it does or if it's even a full OS, but look it up.

What's wrong with Windows? I kinda feel like Ubuntu and the others are limited..

I'm just having a lot of issues with Windows 10, and I don't have any copies of Windows 7 (I have an XP disk, but you know...) Besides, Windows 7 and 8.x is being phased out anyway so I thought I may as well do it now.

Some of my Problems include taskbar indicators not showing up, Antivirus stopping Windows from running it's desktop environment(I'm looking at you AVG and Avast), even installing an antivirus that doesn't do that makes my system noticably slower whereas the previous antivirus I've used don't do that at all.

My procrastination is the bane of my existence.

I remember back in the day most Linux users would avoid radeon graphics because the compatibility/driver support was awful, but I haven't heard anything lately about certain hardware having issues.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Did you upgrade to Windows 10 from WIndows 7/8?

This was a clean install of Windows 10, I got the copy from being a part of the Technical Preview.

Yeah, I know, which is why I'm asking this. I also haven't heard anything lately but better safe than sorry.

Is there anything I need to look out for? And is there a place where I may be able to check compatibility with my APU's Graphics? (HD 8400)

There are issues with catalyst not performing that well (When compared to nvid)
However getting the drivers to actually isn't really a problem any more.

If you're not playing games, There shouldn't be an issue. You will likely get away with MESA drivers which load by default.

A technical preview copy may be the reason to be quite frank. it may be time to reclean windows. and fully update all drivers(if need be by hand as i found  a 2014 wifi driver on one pc when windows knew of a 2015 version)

I only installed Windows the other week, I do not see why this would become an issue to quickly. I've already begun to move to Linux, I'll keep a VM installed for the school software that I have to have (Assuming it won't work on Wine)

I don't think you will have any problems. The on-board graphics have basic kernel drivers and you can install catalyst drivers easily. I reccomend Zorin OS since you seem to like Windows 7. Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Elementary OS, and Ubuntu Gnome are other good choices.

The drivers are no where near as bad as they used to be. If something like that is what you are worried about OP, don't be.

Distros have nothing to do in terms of hardware compatibility, all the CPU and mobo "drivers" are in the kernel.

All you might care about is that in some distros (Ubuntu LTS or Debian for example) you will have older GPU drivers, but you should be fine if you don't need the newest ones for some reason. It's unlikely, but if you need some features introduced in one of the newer kernels and you are using a distro with older hardware, you should consider installing a new kernel. In both cases, it's pretty easy to get the necessary drivers for your system, if the distro doesn't support them :)
