i5-6200U, R5 M335, 8GB RAM

 

 

CS:GO at 1024x768 medium settings

What if the Aspire (Laptop 1) gets updated to Skylake CPUs? Should I get it instead? I was pretty much set for it until I saw the Dell's (Laptop 2) 8 GB of RAM, but with a significantly weaker GPU.

i would get the first one ( maybe upgrade the ram though ). The 940m is much stronger than the r5

If Laptop 1 is significantly cheaper (seeing as it's an older processor) you could get that, and upgrade the ram and still get good performance and save some cash.

Laptop 1 is 670 USD. Laptop 2 is 760. Which one is more future proof?

I would just get the cheaper one unless it only supports 4 gigabytes of RAM. If it supports up to 8 gigs, just buy another stick. If not, get laptop 2. For reference I play CS:GO at 30 fps on low settings at 1366x768 with a Pentium N3700, HD Graphics and 8 gigs of RAM. You can configure the launch options for CS:GO for a bit more performance if you need it.

Probably laptop 2, it'll get better performance in cpu intensive tasks and just normal use, but it has a less powerful gpu so gaming performance isn't going to be great.
