So i will be buying a new monitor i've been looking at the dell u2414h/2415 (not sure if 1200p is worth the extra money) or the benq gw2765ht. my masin gamesi  play are battlefield4 skyrim borderlands 2 and civ5. so i was just wondering should i stick to a great 1080p monitor or an ok 1440p monitor?

On 1440p you will be fine, Though do not expect to max anything out. May suffer some frame drops in the more demanding games though nothing to sweat over. I'd personally if you could upgrade to Pascal or Polaris when they are released (Which ever is better for the money ) since games are only going to get more demanding.

Chiming in on 1200p. 16:10 is excellent for desktop work, but in games I often find that devs really focus on the 16:9 aspect ratio for just about everything, 1200p will be supported but UI elements, 9 times out of 10 will snap to their 16:9 locations.

It's not a huge issue, but it's something to be aware of if you're considering a 1200p monitor.

My 970 (before I added a second) ran pretty much everything at 1440P with no issues. Also the games you play aren't particularly demanding so I suspect you will have a great experience. Obviously the newer games may require more oomph at 1440P but time will tell

what settings did you play on for 1440p? and what performance gain did a 2nd 970 give you?

I ran ultra @ 1440P for witcher 3 and pretty much everything I had at the time. Obviously not getting 60FPS, but it was more than playable.
