Setting up network in sleepout

Go to solution Solved by nzstubbies,

Thanks for you help everyone

I will get an AP to use out there

Hi all

Im building a sleepout with my dad and am trying to figure out the best way to get a wireless network out there.

Im running powerline ethernet out to it as it is by far the easiest option for a cable but am not sure it I should get a cheap wireless booster or a proper router.

I want it to be easy to connect to and preferably not a different ssid that you need you need to connect too.

Thanks in advance

Easiest option?

Run ethernet out there with a PoE PSU in one end and a AP in the other :)

my current modem/router is an Asus DSL-N12E-C1 which controls everything. I have no other router/repeaters, etc connected to it.

Budget would be less than the Ubiquiti Unifi AP, its priced about $140NZD and my budget would be max $80NZD

Depends on how far away it is, I'd still get a router + a cable and put the router in ap only mode (if you can't afford an AP only solution)

Not sure what eBay is like in NZ but here in the USA you can pick up Unifi APs for $50-$60 used on eBay. Perhaps try that. Otherwise just a pretty normal router/AP (if router in AP mode or with DHCP disabled) with an Ethernet running out to it. You can run Ethernet under ground pretty easily if you don't mind some digging.

Powerline networking would work if you only want to run a power line out there and not deal with an ethernet line as well. Depending on how far the sleepout is, you probably don't want to use a wireless extender, because those have to communucate wirelessly with your existing router.

If you have a power line only, I recommend using either a powerline kit and a router configured as an AP, or you can get a combined unit that is a powerline AP - every manfacturer of powerline equipment has one of these. If you have power as well as ethernet, then you should get a normal router, configured as an AP.

BTW, what's a sleepout? Is it like a treehouse?

Looking to buy GTX690, other multi-GPU cards, or single-slot graphics cards:

Thanks for your answer

A sleepout is basically a big shed with power that you can live in like this picture here.
