My sister's old laptop died so I salvaged all of the useful things from it (ram, wifi card, hdd, battery, and the screen?)

I was wondering if the screen is useful it uses a flat cable connector that is orange has about 40 pins/contacts

not sure if there is an adapter for this somewhere but I'd love to use this as an auxiliary display :)

It has an HDMI in, DVI in, and VGA in.  It will work like any other monitor you have, so yes.  One thing though, no speakers, but there is a 3.5mm (standard headphone jack) out from the HDMI so you can hook up speakers or headphones.
