Hyper 212 Evo - Worth or not?

I currently have enough money to buy a 212 Evo from my 'PC budget' for my i5-6600, however I was wondering if this was any better than the stock cooler? My main concern is sound here because the regular fan noise is horrifying, and I was thinking this 212 Evo would be reusable if I do ever change to a CPU where I would actually need it for its cooling performance.

The Hyper 212 Evo is considered one of the best, if not THE best aftermarket CPU fans, at a good price. Obviously, you could most likely get better thermals with an AIO water cooling or custom loop water cooling, but if you just want a cheap, great, efficient, and pretty good looking CPU fan, the Hyper 212 Evo is pretty much the most dominant and used choice.

If you really love air cooling and absolutely hate water cooling, or want extreme over clocks on an air cooler, there are probably better options that are much more expensive than a Hyper 212, for example like the Cooler Master V8, the Cryorig H5 Ultimate, or one of those be quiet! Coolers with like 3 fans. If you just want a good fan, and considering it is just a 6600 so probably not over clocking, the Hyper 212 should be much better than 'just fine'.

Better than stock but why not add another ~$10 and get the Cryorig H7?

£13 extra than the 212 on amazon UK

that would take me at least another 3 weeks to get  (saving up is slow, esp during school holidays)

Also, £5 for thermal paste (MX-4) - if it doesn't come with like the 212

finally, not needed

get the 212 it's worth every penny and come with the paste...it will be worlds quieter and your cpu will run cooler and last longer.

You have a locked CPU so it's not worth spending big bucks but the stock intel cooler is garbage and the hyper 212 will be a vast improvement.

Well, if budget is that tight, the EVO 212 is the right candidate.

I just put one in one of my AMD A-series builds and was pleasantly surprised with how it performed. Attached is a spreadsheet of my results.

The MB temperatures listed are an average of the three on-board sensors.

In my experience with the Intel stock cooler, it usually builds up a significant amount of dust every month, and after 4 months of no cleaning, enough dust would have built up to act as a heat insulator for your CPU. This leads to increased temperature and fan noise until you clear out the dust buildup. After I replaced the stock cooler on my system with the 212 Evo, I found that it was very low maintenance in the dust department, dust just doesn't build up very easily, though it could use a few puffs of air to dislodge any dust particles that have managed to get through the cooler's fins.
