Hey,

I was recently sponsored by Primochill to further mod my project to hardline tubing. They shipped the goods last week and are currently with UK customs which made me think....

Even though the items are essentially free, will they be held at customs pending import tax/VAT?

Has anyone in the UK had any experience of this? I don't mind paying, but  I read earlier they can be held there for upto 3 weeks ....

Inport tax on a free item? wat. I'm over here in america tho so i cant say much on the stupidity of other governments.

If I use words like probably or most likely, it is because I dislike certainty. These words can probably be omitted and the sentence read as a certainty.

Well that's my thoughts, I just read throw the official government line of "gift items" and apparently it may be taxable if the value is over £137 ....

That's why I was asking if anyone had experience in the matter

153.96 dollars of tubing seems like a lot. Not sure 'cause I haven't actually used it before but still.

Haha, tubing, fittings, flow meters, bending jig and a funnel. The build needs 22 fittings so those alone are like $170

Oh. That's a hell of a sponsor then. It all makes sense now.

Unfortunately you will likely need to pay tax for it but it all depends on how primochill filled out the customs form. They're giving you the items for free but that doesn't mean the items are worth $0. Primochill could have chosen to list the retail price as the value and if they did not mark it as a gift, you would need to pay for taxes for the full retail value.

i've sold a CPU/GPU and a motherboard and it doesn't seem to be a pattern of what can/will get VAT notices.

GPU - gift, $5 maximum value (scrap - was functional) no VAT collection asked for

CPU - gift, $250 maximum value - £50 VAT was collected

mobo - non-gift, $200 maximum values - no VAT collected

GPU - non-gift, $50 maximum value -  £4 VAT was collected
