First PC Build Processor Core Advice

Go to solution Solved by bomerr,

I don't like that build. You are spending 1400 on a PC and basically getting a bottom of the barrel entry level PC.

You can get windows from the usual places or get a copy of windows 7-8.1 and upgrade that to Windows 10.

For the monitor this is the link:

You can baseclock overclock that CPU to 4.2+ Ghz and overclock the monitor to 96hz.

Basically for 200 extra dollars you get a relatively high-end PC whereas before you were spending 1400 on an entry level PC.

I'm building my first PC and have AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor as my CPU for $165. If i were to get an AMD quad-core processor instead of an 8-core would it affect the preformance just for gaming? This is my build right now: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/InvertedGPR/saved/YTLG3C

Generally speaking the core count doesn't really matter unless you're playing CPU intensive games. E.g. ArmA series.

Best off spending the saved money on a better GPU!

Asus Z77 Sabertooth, Intel Core i5 3570k 4.2 GHz, EVGA GTX 780, Corsair Vengeance 16Gb ,

Samsung EVO 250&500Gb, Western Digital Black 2TB,  Corsair RM 750

Custom Water Loop

Thanks guys but Im kind of confused. I got two different answers. I'm probably goin to be playing Fallout 4 a lot so what CPU should i go for for this?

Get at least a quad core. I built a computer for a friend with a g3258 and it stuttered in fallout 4. Recently it was swapped for a 4690k and all the issues he was having are gone

Oh, alright. I think I'm getting it now.

Yeah, its very important that you do get the conecpt, not that I am biased to intel (I personally am but writing this unbiased) but AMD's architecture is a 2-3 years out of date. i5's compete with AMD's high end CPU's and i3's with mid tier'd CPU's. No matter which one you pick your gonna get something worth it. If you go intel, I highly recommend you go skylake. If not, the 8350.

no problem.

btw if you can afford it, I'd recommend getting a i5-6500k because you can multiplier OC but the 6500 or 6400 make good bang for the buck CPUs with BLCK OC.

If I can I'll be sure to upgrade that and also pcpartpicker little wattage generator says you only need a little more then 300 watts so shouldn't I stay at like a 400 watt power supply instead of 750 watt?

the evga g2 is a really really good quality PSU with a 10 year warranty. I put it there because of the build quality. There are some cheaper options (~$80) but anything sub $60 is usually meh build quality.

So it won't affect efficency at all or something with the eztra watts?

Your PC only uses as many watts as it need. The PSU wattage is the max your PSU can deliver. As you can see, a PSUs max efficiency is around 50% load.

Oh, I understand. Honestly, at first I thought the rating was for just credibility or something
