GPU wont fit in top x16 slot x99 gaming 9 ACK

PeggersXtreme

Hi,

My Titan X wont fit in the top slot of my motherboard with the back plate installed. They literally give no room for a backplate because the ram slots are so close to the top slot the options I have are running top card in x8 and bottom card in x16 or getting a dremel out and cutting some slots in the backplate. I really don't want to remove the backplate it helps keep the ram and back of the card cool.

What do you think guys?

Custom PC:

I assume that will make my SLI run x16 x8 instead of x16 x16?

Both run 8x but you'll see no difference

even though the second card is in an x16 slot and the top card is in an x8 slot :/ makes my 40lane cpu super pointless

Nope, one will run at x16, while the other will run a x8 as @PeggersXtreme has a 5960X

Even so, there will be no negligible performance decrease.

Yeah, you only lose like 1 fps or something like that it really doesn't matter if you run at 16x/16x or 8x/16x

how about synthetic scores will I see a drop in them I massively mess around with overclocking and stuff last time I used this setup I was using an Xpower motherboard but the bios went faulty but my 3Dmark score 1080p was something like 25,335

If you were to say trim the ram slot tabs that don't move anyway would it then clear? But doing this would void any warranty you have.

got it in without doing that but the ram clips or whatever they are touch the backplate I assume that is fine though?

Yeah it is dumb. But I think if its a card with a factory backplate it will fit. It's just something with add on aftermarket plates. Linus has a Msi Ces 2015 video with this board shown with a card with a factory back plate in the top slot.

As long as its not pushing it over with to much pressure it will be fine.

it doesn't appear to be pushing it too much I use a EK terminal to connect my cards in SLI so it should be fine cause the other card is lining up fine

Yeah I have been debating about sli. But I also want to get a Intel 750 ssd at some point so I might end up changing boards again. Good thing I love hardware lol.

lol I really wanted the Godlike Carbon but it doesn't come out till end of march so I decided I would get the gaming 9 as my old computer barely manages 40 fps on high settings on most games so I wanted to get the x99 back up and running. wouldn't surprise me if I decide to get the carbon in 5 months lol when I clean my loop again.

Yeah the Carbon looks sick. Never used an Msi board I might give them a look next time. My experience with Asus and X99 has been buggy and that is strange because I have never had a issue with Asus.
