So I'm finally maning up and creating a build with intel, but I don't know much about it yet considering I was hardcore amd for 4 years straight. I just need some help deciding what would be a good cpu and mobo combo I could afford with 500 dollars give or take 100 dollars

What do you want to use the pc for? just gaming or more?

If you 'give' 100 dollars you could probably step up to skylake, but Im assuming you want to re-use all your other current components and in that case you'd have to spend more on new ram as well.

Edit: Or a skylake i5 combo (cooler is added only because the cpu doesn't come with a stock cooler, if you already have one to use ignore that)

Do you plan on overclocking, because k series chips cost quite a bit more than non k skews. If you don't plan on overclocking, save some money on a non k cpu and use that money for a better graphics card.

Is skylake just a brand cause ddr4 isn't really an upgrade from ddr3, now I could probably just get better ram sticks and I use this pc for gaming so I kinda want an i7, I do like to overlook my cpu's

By not purchasing a k series cpu you can save money by buying a motherboard that does not support overclocking. Also for reference, a 6700k is about 30 to 40 bucks more expensive than a non k 6700. However if you are planning to overclock than none of this matters. With that money you save, you could get an AMD R9 390 which is a little faster than a 970 but the  advantage of the 390 is the 8gb of vram is has which would be great for gaming at higher resolutions and tasks like video editing. Not to say that the 970 isn't capable which it is, it's just an option if you don't plan on overclocking.

Yeah I think I'm gonna go with the k series though cause I curently have my cpu over clocked from 3.8 to 4.2, cause I run most games at 1080 with 50+ steady frames

Skylake is just the name of the newest Intel architecture.  Ddr4 is just what they use.. Whether it's much of an improvement or not.  That's why I didn't initially recommend a skylake build for the budget you provided, because you have to down grade to an i5 and get new memory.

The 4790k and motherboard would still be compatible with the memory you currently have as well as everything else, and in my opinion is the best option for you given what you said you wanted to spend.
